The details are based on recent feedback from VW head Herbert Diess and the brand’s design boss Klaus Bischoff, both hinting that a Beetle EV could occur, but not prior to the launch of a couple of other more important electric vehicles from Volkswagen.

The British publication promises Bischoff has already sketched a possible look for the four-door Beetle successor, but it will require the automaker among two and three years to make a final decision on its creation. Before that, Volkswagen will remain focused on launching a series of well known electric vehicles. “Our duty is to get the volume models underway,” he informed Autocar. “These cars have super-complex technology and if you do excessive, it’s an overload. Then we [can] move into much more exotic cars and the area of emotion.”
