2023 Audi A6 Avant E-Tron – Wednesday’s unveiling by Audi of the A6 Avant E-Tron electric vehicle concept was a first. Although this preview model will not be made in North America, it will serve as the foundation for future Audi electric cars that are worldwide.

This platform is the Premium Platform Electric. It was also the basis of the 2021 Shanghai Motor Show’s A6 E-Tron Concept. As shown in the two concepts, the future PPE models will be the fourth front for Audi’s EVs. They will be joining the E-Tron family, with its MLB-based platform, the E-Tron GT, and the E-Tron GT. This is shared with the Porsche Taycan and then the E-Tron GT and its J1 platform.

The platform is covered with wagon bodywork, which has dimensions similar to the A6 sedan and A7 fastback. Audi claims the A6 Avant E-Tron Concept has a 0.24 drag coefficient. However, the A6 E-Tron sedan had a 0.22 drag factor.

Engine

Each axle is powered solely by an electric motor. This keeps Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive in place and produces 476 horsepower and 590 lb-ft. Audi also refers to a single-motor rear-wheel-drive version. Audi claims the concept’s 100-kwh Lithium-ion battery can deliver 435 miles of range under the European WLTP test cycle. This cycle is much more optimistic than that of the EPA. Audi claims the PPE platform’s 800-volt charging system charges at a rate between 270 kW and can be charged in as little as 25 minutes.

2023 Audi A6 Avant E-Tron Verdict

The PPE platform will replace the existing Audi electric cars. The PPE platform is similar to the A6 Avant E-Tron’s evolutionary design, but the automaker is exploring other designs. Recent Audi concepts like the Grandsphere and Skysphere have demonstrated how liberating an EV platform is.
