2023 BMW iX M60 – BMW calls the iX their technology flagship. However, the 2023 BMW iX M60 aims at being the company’s high-performance technology flagship. The iX M60 is a true M-car, with dual motors that produce 610 horsepower and nearly 300 miles of range. This sportier EV crossover will not be all hardcore performance due to its air suspension system and innovative interior features. It also has the connectivity you have come to expect from the Bavarian luxury label.
2023 BMW iX M60 Review
The iX M60 harnesses the lightweight iX xDrive50 model’s latent performance potential. It uses an aluminum spaceframe chassis and carbon fiber unibody. Carbon fiber reinforced panels are used for the roof, side, and rear sections. It weighs in at 5,769 lbs, with a substantial portion of that weight residing in the battery pack. These exterior panels are also available in seven colors. They include Alpine White, Phyronic Blue Metallic, and Blue Ridge Mountain Metallic. Storm Bay Metallic and Oxide Grey Metallic are all options.
The front has a double-wishbone arrangement, and the rear has a five-link. The air suspension system has four corners and is controlled electronically by dampers. They take vehicle speed, roll, acceleration, deceleration, and steering inputs to ensure the body remains planted. The “My Modes” setting can change the damper rate, which can be changed using a button on your center console. BMW’s Servotronic assists with steering by a variable rate steering rate. All of this is designed to provide optimum handling and feel while maintaining the M60’s correct height at all speeds and with any load. If you feel you require more ground clearance, you can adjust the height manually.
The iX M60’s wheels and tires will play a significant role in enhancing its performance over the iX xDrive50. The standard wheel measures 21 inches and is wrapped in 255/50R21 tires at all four corners. An optional wheel, measuring half an inch wider and 22 inches in diameter, is made of aluminum. It has a unique aerodynamic design with Titanium Bronze colors and 275/40R22 tires. Blue-painted brake calipers from Brembo are found behind either wheel. They feature the “M” logo to let others know that your BMW EV has the best braking performance. Each wheel has a fixed four-piston brake caliper and each rear has a fixed two-piston caliper.
Every iX M60 comes standard with BMW’s Live Cockpit Professional & Natural Interaction. This allows you to activate certain functions using your voice, gestures, or even your smartphone. A standard Bowers and Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound system will give you and your occupants theater-quality sound. Although the headliner is available in Anthracite, you have five interior color options. You can choose from Oyster, Mocha, and Black interiors made of perforated SensaTec synthetic fabrics. However, if you prefer the feel of genuine hide, perforated leather covers in Amido and Castenea Cherry colors are available.
The driver and front passenger are both treated with Active Seat Ventilation. But the real star is the Radiant Heating package. The system heats the seat, steering wheel, and armrests, but also the door panels, dashboard, and dashboard. This is a feature found in many Mercedes products. An efficient heat pump system will still provide hot air for defrosting the windows. The thermally insulated windshield keeps the warm air inside. Ambient lighting is also provided for the occupants with LED strips placed between the doors and windows, as well as in the Panoramic Sky Lounge LED roofing.
Fifth-Generation Rear Motor
We now get to the fun part: the motors that drive the BMW iX M60. BMW uses a three-phase ACsynchronous motor outback. This allows for greater energy density, faster switching frequency, and better heat management. All of these factors translate into higher RPM, more horsepower, and more torque. The standard output of the rear and front motors is combined at 532 horsepower and 749 lb-ft respectively. The front motor produces 255 horsepower and the rear motor has 483 horsepower in normal operation. Sport Boost mode increases that to 610 hp, while Launch Mode slaps you in your back with 811 lb/ft of torque.
The iX M60 uses a lithium-ion battery with a nominal power of 106.3-kWh. The iX M60 can charge at Level 2 AC with a rate of 11 kW, allowing for a quick charge of 0-100 percent in less than 10 hours. It can also be charged at DC speed up to 250kW. This allows it to go from 10-80 percent full in just 35 minutes. According to BMW’s preliminary EPA rating, the iX M60 will provide 280 miles of range on a single charge.
