2023 Fiat Panda SUV – Fiat plans to launch a new product line that “affordable electrification”. It will be released over five years. The Italian brand will produce 500 vehicles and a series of utility vehicles that are based on the Centoventi design as a key pillar in its development within Stellantis.

Auto Express recently heard from Olivier Francois, CEO of Fiat, that this strategy would change the company’s approach to its lineup. The 500 will now be the brand’s style-centric model. The Centoventi-based model, which will be the next, will ditch funky styling for downright practicality. The new entry-level cars will be affordable and maintain the same unwavering focus on production costs as the original Panda of the 1980s. Auto Express has confirmed that there will be a supermini Panda and a new SUV Panda (pictured above), but Auto Express is aware of other models.
Francois asked us directly if Fiat’s new lineup included two pillars, based on the convention established with the 500 and Centoventi concepts – and we replied, “Yes, that’s right.” He did not confirm any nameplate but suggested that larger models with Panda influences could use the Fiat badge. Francois spoke however about his thoughts on naming the entry-level Centoventi model. He said: “It is now possible for me to invent a name, or take advantage of some legend from the past. The second is my preference, as we have so many happy customers. The Panda supermini will be a sturdy, compact city car. It will be Fiat’s closest attempt to make a Panda successor. There will likely be at least one, but possibly two, scaled-up models. They will likely use the Stellantis CMP architecture Fiat’s sister brand Peugeot uses under its 208 and 308 hatchbacks. Although the “Punto Francois” may seem like a supermini, the name could also refer the the “Panda SUV”, which is a more modern extension of the Centoventi design. This car can be used as a foil for Fiat’s next-generation 500X. It could replace the 500L MPV.
2023 Fiat Panda SUV Released
Fiat will soon be releasing a small SUV, the first of its kind, for Tichy in Poland. This plant is currently home to the 500 and Lancia’s Ypsilon. Francois anticipates that his new car will go on sale in the coming year. This model should be seen this year. It will be built alongside Alfa’s baby SUV and a small Jeep. All three vehicles will use CMP and ICMP platforms from the company to offer a choice between petrol or electric drives. Francois stated that there was room for two small SUVs, contrary to speculation. VW now has the T-Cross as well as the T-Roc. Both are SUVs but one is larger than the other. “But if money is a concern, that’s another factor. A B-SUV is a good choice. If you are looking for something boxy, robust, spacey, and sturdy, the Panda is my inspiration. I’m going to keep this design for now, but evolutionarily. “
Francois seems to have decided that Fiat’s core business will be small car sales, which will allow Opel and Citroen the opportunity to sell larger models like full-sized family SUVs. He stated that his idea was to focus on cars between 3.7m-4.3m in length. “A class, B class, B-SUV short, B-SUV long. This is where I want to be.
Fiat has struggled over the past decade to include the 500 in its lineup, not least because it is prohibitively costly to create new versions of cars such as the Punto or Tipo, which are sister brands Chrysler and Jeep. Francois stated that Fiat, being part of Stellantis, and being able to leverage off-the-shelf platforms and engines, taking full advantage of massive economies of scale, could reduce development costs for key small cars up to four out of three.
Francois explained to us that he has siblings now – Peugeot Opel Citroen DS, Lancia, and Citroen Citroen DS. They all make European small compact cars. “So we all require more or less the same things, the identical technology. Although the basic principles of these cars are different, they can still be used together. Fiat is likely to launch at most one variant of the 500 platforms, which was created in-house before the merger with Stellantis. This architecture could be slightly expanded for the five-door version of the 500X. The new model will likely use the same design as the 500X small SUV. It is based on the subcompact STLA all-electric underpinnings.
