2023 Ineos Grenadier hydrogen FCEV – According to the company, mass production of Ineos Grenadier will begin in July 2022. This Defender-like SUV is made by Ineos Automotive, Britain. There are potential Ineos Grenadier variations, including the hydrogen FCEV. These variants may be available after 2023. The delay in the combustion variant could be due to supply chain problems automakers face because of semiconductor chips. Ineos Grenadier was in a new stage earlier in 2021. Engineer journalist Mark Evans gave a brief overview of the latest updates to get from prototype to production.

Ineos Automotive purchased the Mercedes-Benz Hambach plant in France from Mercedes-Benz and will begin manufacturing the Ineos Grenadier at the end of this year. Erik Torseke is Ineos Automotive’s Industrialization Director. He explained why Hambach was chosen for production. Mercedes-Benz’s Hambach plant is designed for large SUV production. The company was also pleased with the quality, cost, and production capacities. Torseke stated that 2B prototypes were not meant for production. Ineos Automotive will only use them to make sure that the parts fit properly together. Next, prototypes will be made according to the manufacturing process. The French plant may eventually produce an Ineos Grenadier hydrogen variant (FCEV).
Ineos Automotive and Hyundai Motor Company have partnered to produce hydrogen and share the fuel cell system. This partnership will be completed in November 2020. Ineos Automotive stated that the Grenadier 4×4 will be tested with Hyundai’s hydrogen fuel cells powertrain. Although the company has yet to confirm a production schedule, it stated that this test will demonstrate its efforts to diversify off-roading SUV powertrains. The speculation that Ineos Grenadier might get the South Korean automaker’s second-generation fuel cells stack was based on the 2020 announcement. This stack debuted in Nexo’s 2018 model 2018. Ineos now has another candidate to be its SUV’s propulsion system, as Hyundai is currently developing its third-generation fuel cell stack for Hyundai Nexo 2023. Ineos Automotive announced on October 17, 2021, that a prototype for a hydrogen fuel-cell variant of the Grenadier 4×4 was in development. It would be developed with Austrian powertrain specialist AVL. The testing on- and offroad will begin by the end of 2022. Recently, we asked the company if they would be willing to share information about the hydrogen-powered Grenadier on its Facebook page. It replied that it would announce more information about this project in 2022.
Ineos Automotive and Hyundai Motor Company have partnered to increase the global hydrogen economy. This is in line with their recently launched business, which develops and builds clean hydrogen capacity across Europe. As a result of its chemical production processes, it already produces 300,000.00 tons of hydrogen each year. Inovyn is a subsidiary of Ineos Group in the petrochemical sector and the largest European electrolysis operator. It is a leader in the hydrogen economy due to its extensive experience in hydrogen storage and handling and its deep knowledge in the critical technology that uses renewable energies to make hydrogen.
The Ineos Grenadier’s interior is simple, retro, and has some contemporary touches. Ineos Automotive emphasizes function over form. This model will appeal to classic off-road SUV enthusiasts. This is what Land Rover’s new Defender should have looked like from the inside, according to some. The cabin has a simple dashboard and lots of analog controls that are inspired by aircraft, boats, and tractors. There is also a large storage area between the front seats and a compass. It gives off a rugged, industrial and purposeful appearance. The large, glass roof panels allow in lots of natural light and can be removed. The center console houses a 12.3-inch touchscreen that supports split-screen functionality. It features crisp graphics.
In March, the Grenadier arrived in Austria to winter-test. It was then spotted on Obertauern’s mountains proving its off-road capabilities. Dirk Heilmann, the CEO, of Ineos Automotive, had then shared some pictures of the new extreme SUV from the tests on his Instagram page (@dirkheilmanngrenadier). Grenadier’s prototype has FC Lausanne livery and roof light bar, snorkel, side steps, and snorkel. Built on a ladder frame chassis, the 4×4 SUV has extreme off-roading capabilities. The SUV will have solid axles, lockable diffs, and knobby Bridgestone all-terrain tires. BF Goodrich all-terrain rubber tires are optionally available.
