2023 Mini Cooper Clubman JCW Station Wagon – The 2023 Mini Cooper Clubman JCW station wagon has a racecar attitude and a turbocharged 302-hp four-cylinder that’s mated with all-wheel drive. The maxi Mini is a stunning vehicle with incredible handling and straight-line performance. There are enough exterior embellishments to make it stand out in traffic. It doesn’t prioritize practicality as much, so if your goal is to have a spacious and family-friendly wagon, then this might not be the right vehicle for you. The Clubman’s performance and price tag align it more with the Honda Civic Type R and the Volkswagen Golf R hot hatches–not the rugged-and-functional Subaru Outback wagon. The Clubman’s long-roof design isn’t without merit. It has dual rear doors that allow for a greater cargo area than the Mini Cooper Hardtop. The Clubman JCW is a joy to drive with its tuned-up four-pot engine.
2023 Mini Cooper Clubman JCW Station Wagon Review
You can order the Clubman JCW with the unusually-named Untold Edition appearance package. This special edition car features unique Sage Green exterior paint and bright brass accents. It also has unique 18-inch wheels.
Cooper Clubman JCW is a large investment for such small cars. We recommend taking it easy with options. Upgrade to Signature trim for 18-inch wheels, adaptive suspension, Harman/Kardon sound system, and a panoramic sunroof. In-dash navigation, Apple CarPlay, and a digital gauge display are all included. This package is a great value for the money.
2023 Mini Cooper Clubman JCW Station Wagon Redesign
The JCW upgrade to the mid-range S model’s S model is nothing to be ashamed of: While the S has a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder making 189 horsepower, the JCW produces 302 horsepower. Because the Clubman has a longer wheelbase, it is better at handling bumps and other pavement imperfections than smaller Cooper models. This makes it more comfortable on road trips. After the Clubman has been tuned by JCW for performance, this advantage vanishes. The Clubman’s stiffened suspension makes the ride less comfortable and more rigid, making it less suitable for daily driving. Although the steering is quick and precise, it isn’t quite the Minis go-karting experience that we have come to expect.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
The Clubman JCW achieves decent fuel economy despite its performance ambitions. It gets 23 mpg in city traffic and 31 mpg highway. We haven’t yet tested the Clubman JCW’s turbo-four, but we know that it performed better than its EPA rating in real life, delivering a 32 mpg result. Visit the EPA website for more information on the Clubman JCW’s fuel economy.
Although the Clubman’s unusual interior design might put some off, it is clear that this car is a departure from the Subaru Outback’s bland styling. The cabin materials may not be up to the mark for entry-luxury pricing but the car’s unusual layout and quirky design make up for it. It will be appreciated by those who enjoy it, such as the checkered flag accents and the circular, aircraft-style toggle switches. People who can’t be bothered by the small gauge cluster and awkwardly placed infotainment-rotary-knob controller will find it frustrating. This car loses style points but gains practicality. Clubman’s side-hinged back doors and fold-flat seat make it easy to load things into the cargo area. The Mini’s cargo area is small, so there isn’t much space for all that stuff. The cabin’s cubbies have very little storage and are mainly used for smartphones. A huge bin is located under the cargo floor, which offers additional utility.
Connectivity and Infotainment
As with most Clubman products, you will have to pay for the best infotainment equipment. Touchscreen Navigation packages allow buyers to equip their cars with Apple CarPlay functionality and navigation. The standard system includes voice controls and Bluetooth connectivity.
The basic driver-assistance features are included in the standard package. However, buyers who want more advanced features will need to purchase the Driver Assistance package. The Clubman JCW’s crash test results can be found at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety websites. These are key safety features:
- Automated emergency braking
- Standard lane-departure warning
- Available adaptive control
