2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV – The 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has had a long and interesting journey. It’s also a model from Japan in 2022 and will be available for purchase there by the end of this year. The Outlander will not be available in North America until the second half of 2022. This is actually the fourth Outlander model to debut this year. In February, the standard model was released. Then came the updated hybrid model from the previous generation and the new design a few weeks later.
Mitsubishi has now made it available to provide more Outlander PHEV information, but there are still a few missing pieces, such as horsepower and torque. The Nissan Rogue-based SUV can travel 54 miles (87 km) on pure electricity per the WLTC ratings. This is thanks to a next-generation PHEV system that uses two electric motors front- and rear, each powered by a 20-kWh lithium-ion battery. Although we don’t know the exact power figures, Mitsubishi claims that both the front and rear motor outputs have been increased by “around 40%” to give the SUV its incredible range.
2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Review
The 2023 Outlander PEV’s all-wheel controller system is equipped with dual electric motors. It also features an Active Yaw Control (AYC), which can transmit power to both the front and back axles. For torque vectoring, the system can apply brakes to either the right or left wheels. The booster function sends more power to the front motor if needed. Mitsubishi also increased lift-throttle acceleration to give the Outlander a single pedal operation. However, faster stops require drivers to use the brake pedal. There are seven different drive modes that can be used to deal with different road surfaces and weather conditions.
Mitsubishi makes no mention of Outlander’s internal combustion motor, which is quite curious. It’s likely the same four-cylinder 2.4-liter engine that was featured in the Outlander PHEV in February. Although it only produces 126 horsepower (94kilowatts), the combined output of the electric motors was a respectable 221 HP (165 kW). Motor.1.com requested additional information from Mitsubishi about the engine and power output of the new version. We’ll update you as soon as we have more details.
The new Outlander PHEV has the same skin as the regular model. The interior layout is the same, with the exception of the different digital display readouts. That’s not a problem. The Outlander’s greenhouse impressed us during our first drive. If the hybrid has similar driving characteristics, it could make a great choice for eco-minded buyers looking for a three-row SUV.
