2023 Range Rover Sport New Generation

2023 Range Rover Sport – The next-gen Range Rover Sport has been tested in the real world. Prototypes have been driven on roads across Britain and Germany since last. In the second half of this year, the new Range Rover Sport could be available about one year after the 2022 Range Rover.

2023 Range Rover Sport New Design

The evidence from Wilco Blok’s test mule sightings is a strong testimony to the fact that Range Rover Sport will once again take over the role of Range Rover’s close brother. They have retained the original design cues and proportions. Although progress will be gradual, loyal customers would still want the next model generation to reflect their values.

The next-gen Range Rover Sport’s front end is spotted with spy media. It has a curvy headlamp that does not fit the new Range Rover design language. Although the disguise may be intended to protect the final design of the Range Rover Sport, the finish is too realistic to call these provisional headlamps. The frame and inserts of the radiator grille are identical to those on the larger model. The visible short overhangs on the sides indicate that the Range Rover Sport was the test mule. The quad tailpipes at the rear suggest we are probably looking at the SVR model. A strong tapering D-pillars on Sport could also be a difference. This design element may remind some of the Range Rover SV Coupe, which was not mass-produced.

Although there could be extensive changes inside, JLR designers may loop classic SUV elements such as the four-spoke steering and chunky dashboard, vertical AC vents, and vertical AC vents. Auto Express reader Peter Siu noticed a large central screen in one of the prototypes. This could be the 2022 Range Rover Pivi Pro infotainment system that uses a 13.1-inch unit.

JLR is testing the 2023 Range Rover Sport using a mysterious circular object attached to the roof. According to auto evolution, this is most likely a LiDAR. This is likely a new-generation LiDAR from Bosch, which is smaller and comes from German engineering company Bosch. Bosch claims that the first long-range LiDAR sensor is “indispensable” for SAE Level 3, 4, 5, and 5 autonomous driving functions. It is capable of working in both close and long ranges. This makes it suitable for driving on roads and in cities. We doubt that the all-new Range Rover Sport will have a LiDAR, as it is not yet available.

Platform and Powertrains

The new MLA platform (Modular Longitudinal Architecture) will underpin the RR Sport. The MLA supports full electricity and a Range Rover EV has been confirmed for launch in 2024. A Range Rover Sports EV should follow a few years later. There are many electrified powertrains available for the 2022 Range Rover. Most of these could be inherited by 2023 Range Rover Sport. There are a variety of 3.0-litre six-cylinder gasoline or diesel engines available with mild-hybrid or plug-in hybrid electrification options. Like the flagship model, the plug-in hybrid variants may come with a 31.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. This provides an electric range of up 100 km (62 miles). The new RR Sport will also feature a 3.0-liter Ingenium straight-6 gasoline engine and a 105 kW electrical motor. Autocar reports that the BMW Group-developed S63, the 4.4-liter V8 engine will power the SVR version of the next-generation Range Rover Sport. This engine, as the German automaker demonstrated with the BMW XM Concept in 2021 showed, supports plug-in hybrid technology. Range Rover Sport SVR owners may have the option to purchase it as a plug-in hybrid vehicle.

Range Rover Sport EV

Auto Express reports that the Range Rover Sports EV should borrow technology from the BMW i7. In June 2019, JLR and BMW Group collaborated in the development of new-generation Electric Drive Units. An EDU is the combination of an EV’s motor and transmission in one housing. The BMW Group was the first to commercialize the shared EV technology. In 2020, the BMW iX3 introduced the fifth-generation eDrive (or “Gen 5 drive”) EV technology. In 2021, the BMW iX (and BMW i4) adopted the same technology. The sixth-generation drive, which will be riding on the BMW Neue Klasse platform, is expected to debut in the next-generation EVs of 2025. JLR expects the Range Rover EV to be on the market by 2024. We also assume that the Range Rover Sports EV will follow soon after. The pair will settle for the current technology of fifth-generation with minor improvements.

2023 Range Rover Sport Price and Release Date

The U.S. could see the next-generation Range Rover Sport as the 2023 Range Rover Sport. This is likely to happen in the second half-year. JLR updated the current-gen model for MY2022 on June 20,21. The update to MY2022 saw the end of the plug-in hybrid version. According to CarBuzz’s report, this is due to the shortage of semiconductor chips, which is causing supply chain problems. The plug-in hybrid variant of the Range Rover Sport will likely be available again in the U.S. within the next generation. The company will offer the next-gen Range Rover Sport as an electric vehicle (PHEV) from the launch. Prices for the next-gen Range Rover Sport could be as low as USD 72,000
