2023 Renault Austral Review

Exterior

A 2023 Renault Austral was captured by European photographers. This is a glimpse of the Kadjar-replacing crossover. Spy photo published by Spanish website Cochespias shows more detail of the small SUV’s headlights. The Austral will be in the same design as the Megane E-Tech Electric. These include C-shaped LED headlights in slimmer shapes with a revised DRL signature and the minimalist diamond branding of the French marque.

Interior

French manufacturer, Kadjar, has been replaced and Austral will get a modern interior. The digital instrument cluster and OpenR infotainment screen are angled towards drivers. Renault claims the car’s 24.3-inch portrait-mounted screen measures the largest. Google Automotive Services is the default software. It is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The cabin can hold up to 30 liters more. To provide maximum storage, the center console can be divided into two compartments. The transmission tunnel is not an issue, so the legroom in the second row has been increased. Renault claims this creates a “cocoon effect” by allowing for more space in the front. “When designing the new Renault Austral’s passenger space, three themes recurring emerged were the perception of space, edgy design, and a protective feel,” Agneta Dahlgren (Renault Design Director). The new Renault Austral’s cocoon is as comfortable as it is tech-savvy. The cockpit puts the passengers at the center stage of the experience. The cockpit is as simple and reassuring as it sounds. Passengers love sharing space and having their own space.

Engine

Renault has confirmed that the Austral will be available only with electrified powertrains. It’s unclear if Australian buyers will have the opportunity to buy the new model, which will replace Kadjar in other markets later in the year. Renault, a French carmaker, has chosen the mild-hybrid 1.5-liter and 1.2-liter engines to power its new SUV. It has however indicated that more engines will be available to produce as low as 105g of CO2 per km or as high as 144.9kW.

Specs

Camouflage wrap gives the impression that the Austral is inspired by the Renault Megane E-Tech hybrid SUV. The Austral features C-shaped headlights and C-shaped heads with a rising shoulder line at the C-pillar. The 2023 Renault Austral will debut in the second quarter. The vehicle is expected to launch in the second quarter of 2022. The Austral is expected to share its underpinnings with the new Nissan Qashqai, using the CMF-C platform as part of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance. The Qashqai’s 4510mm length is 61mm longer than the Kadjar. This means there is more space inside for passengers. Customers can expect to be offered a range of petrol and hybrid engines. Internationally, a 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with up to 116kW can be ordered. For better fuel economy and emissions, it can be paired up with a mild hybrid system. Rumors suggest that both traditional hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains are available.

2023 Renault Austral Expected

The Latin word for “australis”, meaning “of the south”, was the name of the new Austral. It’s part of the company’s plan to “reconquer C-segment” of the European market. Resolution presented this plan in January. According to the company, Austral conjures up heat and vibrancy in the south as well as the tranquil pleasures of the natural world. Renault Australia spokesperson stated that they were looking into all products for the future but did not have any further information. According to the company’s headquarters, Austral was chosen as a name for vehicles sold throughout Europe and beyond. This suggests that the model could be included in the Arkana, which is located below Koleos.
