Subaru has been largely absent from the electric future so far. The Japanese have taken a keen interest in electric vehicles. The new Subaru Solterra made its debut at Los Angeles Auto Show 2021. The Japanese worked closely with Toyota during the entire development process. Their model is called BZ4X. Subaru is now showing that the electric future may be sporty at Tokyo Auto Salon. This is essentially a tuning expo.

Subaru STI E-RA Concept was unveiled at the local car show. It marks the beginning of an “electric age” for the performance brand. The Subaru STI E-RA Concept, an entirely flat electric sports car with a huge front apron as well as a huge rear wing, is a completely flat vehicle. The E-RA Concept is also covered by a stunning diffuser. This indicates that the Japanese have big plans for it. After final testing and development on Japanese tracks, the racer will be able to set a new Nurburgring record. Subaru’s sports team, STI, has established the proper standard: 400 seconds or 6:40 minutes.
The official fastest timings for the Ring show that this would be a new record in sports cars, surpassing the Porsche 991 GT2 RS’s 6:43.300. It is also important to follow regulations. To officially defeat Porsche, the Subaru would need to compete in production cars. It would not be fair to compare electric and combustion race cars.
Japanese engineers have created an impressive package of technology. The Subaru STI E-RA Concept’s total power is 800 kW (1.088 hp). It is divided between four electric motors that are located close to the wheel. The basic idea of the setup is Torque vectoring, which is brutally efficient distribution of driving power to each wheel. Each motor can be used separately. All factors are taken into account, including vehicle speed, wheel speed, vehicle speed, and steering angle. Yamaha Motors has added a new gearbox to its models that improves power distribution. The 60 kWh battery is housed in the Subaru STI E-RA Concept. Its exact location is not known. Subaru cannot confirm if the E-RA Concept has been made into a production model. Japanese officials, however, claim that the E-drive RA’s design is compatible with the FIA standards of the upcoming electric racing series Electric GT (E-GT) which will begin in 2023. It is possible to race with the E-RA Concept again!
What happens if there is a production version? According to reports, the civil Subaru E-RA could be a technical counterpart of a possible electric Toyota MR-2. This is also being considered by Suzuki and Daihatsu. It seems unlikely that Subaru will be added to the mix. The technical details regarding an electric MR-2 replacement are not available from Toyota, Suzuki, or Daihatsu. It is unlikely that the electric two-seater will be built on Toyota’s ETNGA platform. This platform is also used in the BZ4X, Subaru Solterra, and other vehicles. Both the Subaru STI E-RA Concept and the Toyota athlete are far too flat. Subaru aims to highlight, above all else, that the ERA concept has been used to identify the times. Fans want to see an electric racecar that is fast. The torque-vectoring design is based upon four electric motors located near the wheel. It also shows how dynamically all-wheel drive could be projected into the future.

Subaru must, however, immediately introduce new models to ensure that it is not left behind in the electric future. Development is expensive and takes time, so it is difficult to finance, especially in the sports sector. The only solution is to rely upon platforms and technologies developed through collaborations. Toyota is now linked, and the portfolio of the large corporation provides many starting points. The technology exchange would also benefit everyone, as Toyota could create more numbers with another partner.
