2024 BMW i5 Touring EV – Our friends at BMWBlog have been informed by sources that the BMW i5 Touring has been under consideration. A market launch is anticipated for 2024. According to the report, at least one of the G61 5 Series Touring models will be all-wheel-drive i5 Touring versions. This is because the station wagon body style remains popular in European markets.
2024 BMW i5 Touring EV Review
LMC Automotive, an analyst firm, reported that the station wagon is slowly losing its popularity in favor of the SUV. However, 1.5 million estate cars will still be sold by 2025, with Europe accounting for approximately 75 percent of the market. As governments set deadlines for the elimination of combustion engines, electrified models have been in demand. Northern Europe is a market that is particularly strong for estates and electric vehicles. This makes it a strong argument for BMW to approve this project. It’s also worth noting that the MG5 is the first and possibly only electric estate available for sale in the UK, and soon in Europe.
Spy shots of the BMW iX and the BMW i4 have revealed that the BMW designers will keep the subtle kidney grille design from the G60 5 Series. This should also translate to the BMW i5. The question is though if the BMW i5 Touring will be able to remove scratch marks from its grille due to the manufacturer’s additional polyurethane coating. The BMW i5 Touring’s design should be very similar to the current business estate. It will also have a greater emphasis on aerodynamics, which explains why flush doors that open automatically and electronically are required.
The new 5 Series sedan will be the same size and shape as the current model. BMW is trying bolder and more unusual designs to make its cars stand out. However, it won’t be able to disappoint customers with its classic models like the 5 Series. The current model’s horizontal kidney-shaped grille will be retained, but the new vertical kidney grille with a butterfly-shaped design will be used. The next-generation 5 Series Touring, i5, and i5 Touring will likely be free from any polarizing design elements.
The BMW i5 interior should be minimalist in design with a relaxing lounge-style ambiance. You can expect a low-profile iX-type dashboard with simple surfacing, elegantly designed air vents, and discreetly integrated speakers. There will also be a pair of sleek displays. The i5 Touring and i5 may have a combination of the virtual information cluster (driver’s information display) as well as the BMW iDrive operation system’s central display (control display), all combined into a single piece, frameless glass surface that is angled towards the driver. This panel, called BMW Curved Display and combining the two cockpit displays, may appear freestanding, giving the cockpit an elegant, low profile appearance. The instrument cluster may measure 12.3 inches in diagonal, while the central display could measure 14.9 inches.
The dashboard should have enough space between it and the center console. This may contain an electronic gear selector and iDrive8 function scroller and selector as well as a volume adjuster, volume button, start-stop, and an electronic parking brake. These devices are designed with premium materials and could include glass and wood. Touch control buttons and haptic feedback may be featured on the center console. The cabin would reflect the principle of shy tech and reduce to the essentials.
Engine & Battery
The BMW i5 Touring and i5 Touring will borrow powertrains from BMW i4, which has rear-wheel drive and twin-motor variants. The former, eDrive40, produces 335 horsepower while the latter, M50 xDrive, generates 536 horsepower. As the BMW Die Neue Klasse platform is the next milestone in BMW engineering, we don’t expect any significant improvements in performance or features for the 2024 BMW i5 compared to the 2022 model Bimmers. This milestone will be reached in 2025.
The 81.5 kWh battery would be shared by most variants of BMW i5 with the i4. Although the U.S. launch has not been confirmed by BMW Group, it is very likely. The 81.5 kWh battery pack has an EPA estimate. The i4 eDrive40 can travel up to 301 miles and the i4M50 up to 270 miles. Peak charging power is likely to be around 200 kW. This would give you a range of close to 100 miles with a 10-minute charge. The i5 Touring should have a similar range and charging specifications to the i5.
2024 BMW i5 Touring EV Price & Release Date
Oliver Zipse (Chairman of the Board of Management at BMW) confirmed that the G60 series 5 Series as well as its electric counterparts, which now would include i5 Touring, will be manufactured at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing. The BMW i5 sedan will be available by the end of 2023. A 2024 launch is possible for the i5 Touring. The BMW i5 range will be available for purchase starting at USD 70,000-75,000 in America.
