2026 VW ID.2 – As cars get more expensive and batteries become cheaper, fully-electric vehicles will soon be as affordable as ICE-powered ones. The ID.2 concept car was displayed in Munich by ID.LIFE last September. It is expected that the production model will debut in 2025. The ID.1 will have a smaller and more comfortable sibling.
2026 VW ID.2 Review
The ID.2 won’t look like a shrinking ID.3. It will not look like a shrinking ID.2. The concept’s removable roof will not be included in the production model. The ID.LIFE indicates that the ID.2 will have a similar size to the ICE-powered VW T-Cross B-SUV. This car measured 4,091mm (161 inch) in length, 1,845mm (78.6 inches) in width, 1,599mm (62.9 inch) high, and had a wheelbase of 2,650mm (104.3 inches).
Concept cars are often equipped with futuristic features that may not be possible to produce. It will be possible due to the extensive use of recycled materials, the folding seats, and the inability of an infotainment display that can be replaced by the smartphone.
VW engineers modified the MEB platform in order to make it more compatible with smaller VW Group vehicles and reach the ambitious base price goal. First, the electric engine is now located in the front of the vehicle rather than at the rear. The ID.2 is an FWD vehicle. This makes the ID.2 an FWD-only vehicle. We expect it to be a less powerful unit as this is not a performance-oriented car. It will be interesting to see whether VW launches a GTX performance model.
The MEB Eco platform’s battery packs will use lithium-ion-phosphate cells rather than lithium-ion nickel manganese-cobalt ones to save money. The ID.LIFE had a battery capacity of 57 kWh that provided a range of 248 miles (400 km), although the ID.2 will likely have a variety of battery packs.
